#CAT Editor

The CAT Editor is where translation quality becomes usable. It lets you review source and target text segment by segment, correct issues, and make targeted improvements without starting the whole project again.

#What A Segment Is

A segment is a reviewable unit of text. Depending on the file, it may be a sentence, subtitle entry, paragraph, or chunk of nearby text.

Reviewing by segment helps you:

  • Compare the source and translation side by side.
  • Fix meaning before polishing style.
  • Update only the parts that need attention.
  • Track uncertain passages for later review.
  1. Meaning: Does the translation preserve the source?
  2. Terminology: Are names, places, and fixed terms consistent?
  3. Formatting: Are tags, placeholders, line breaks, and styles preserved?
  4. Style: Does the text sound natural in the target language?
  5. Final approval: Is this segment ready to export?

This order prevents wasted polishing. A fluent sentence is still wrong if it changes the meaning or breaks a glossary term.

#Context-Aware Revision

Do not over-correct isolated lines. Before changing a segment, read the nearby source and target text. This is especially important for dialogue, pronouns, repeated jokes, suspense, and subtitle lines split across timestamps.

#When To Use AI Refinement

Use Improve With AI when a segment is mostly correct but awkward. Avoid using refinement to fix source extraction problems, missing tags, or terminology decisions that belong in a glossary.
