CatScribe Docs

#First Translation

This walkthrough takes you from imported file to reviewed output in one practical flow.

#Goal

Translate a small sample, review it, and export it successfully. Do not start with an entire book or a very large PDF until this flow works for your setup.

#Step 1: Prepare A Small Project

  1. Open CatScribe Translate.
  2. Create or open a project.
  3. Select source and target languages.
  4. Import a short chapter, article, document section, or subtitle file.
  5. Keep the original source file as a backup.

If you are translating a book, use one chapter for this first test. If you are translating a PDF, use a few pages and check whether text order is correct.

#Step 2: Choose Translation Settings

  1. Turn on Auto Mode if you want guided settings.
  2. Or choose an engine profile from Translation Engines.
  3. Add important names and terms in Glossaries.
  4. Start the translation.

For a first run, prioritize a reliable draft over maximum quality. You can refine selected segments after you see the output.

#Step 3: Review The First Pass

  1. Open translated segments in the CAT Editor.
  2. Compare source and target text.
  3. Fix incorrect meaning first.
  4. Fix names, terminology, and repeated phrases.
  5. Use Improve With AI for text that is accurate but awkward.

Do not rely on AI refinement as a substitute for review. Use it as an assistant for targeted improvements.

#Step 4: Export And Inspect

  1. Export the translated sample.
  2. Open the exported file in the expected reader, editor, or video player.
  3. Check headings, paragraphs, tags, styles, links, and subtitles.
  4. If formatting breaks, review Editing Without Breaking Formatting.
  5. If performance is slow, review Performance Guidelines.

#Step 5: Continue Safely

Once the sample looks good:

  • Add any new glossary terms you discovered.
  • Translate the next chapter or section.
  • Review before expanding to larger batches.
  • Avoid full-project re-runs unless the source or glossary changed significantly.
